Some of the common causes are:

Hemorrhoids and Bleeding

anal fissures hemorrhoids cancers of the rectum and colon polyps of the rectum and colon diverticulosis abnormal blood vessels (angiodysplasia) ulcerative colitis ulcerative proctitis Crohn's colitis infectious colitis ischemic colitis Meckel's diverticula

Hemorrhoidal bleeding occurs when one of the internal hemorrhoid(s) is scratched, either through wiping or the passing of a hard stool and the blood will be present on the toilet paper when you clean yourself and can also appear on the stool. Hemorrhoids are swollen blood vessels and when that gets damaged then the blood is released, like popping a pimple except it is internal.

The blood may appear from a light red to a darker shade of red. The darker red is suggestive of bleeding much further up the anal canal and may not have anything to do with the hemorrhoids in which case you need to do the responsible thing and get yourself checked out by a Doctor/Physician.

Start simple!

You can start by controlling your diet and making it easier for you body to have softer stool. That can be accomplished by adding more fiber into your daily diet and that can be derived from foods such as wholegrain cereals and breads, fruit and vegetables, seeds, and dried legumes to name a few. The insoluble bran can also be purchased as wheat bran, corn bran and rice bran, which is then added into foods such as cake, pancake and scone mixtures. The brans can also be sprinkled onto breakfast cereal.

Keep in mind that a lot of fibre can also cause constipation if your body is unable to manage the digestion process effectively. Along with fiber also increase the intake of water as that will help in assisting the fiber work itself through your system as well as keep the body hydrated. You may think that you are getting enough water but at times you may need more so if you need to soften the stool and are drinking your 6 to 8 glasses of water then you need to increase that until your body has rehydrated itself and you will notice that your stool will have gotten softer and easier to pass through and then you can decrease that intake. Also if you are taking medications you may need to increase that intake of water to help flush out toxins which can build up in your system and effect your stool (what goes in must come out).

Keep in mind that fluids for your body do not include caffeinated drinks, coffee, alcohol, etc as they may be classified as fluids but they are also loaded with preservatives and add to the toxins that your body has to clear out and need to be filtered out of your system. So if you drink 2 glasses of water and 2 cups of coffee and 2 soda's then your intake of fluids, for the purpose of clearing out the junk from your system is 2 (the 2 glasses of water). .not 6!
